The Toyota Way: Jidoka

In search of better quality

Ensuring quality is the top priority in automobile production at Toyota. This is because this attitude, in addition to avoiding the risk of shipping out defective products, reduces wasteful processes of having to makeover, thereby significantly enhancing productivity.

Pressing, welding (body fabrication), painting and assembly are the major production processes involved in building an automobile. In addition, it requires forging, machining/fabrication, resin moulding and other processes.
Although a HYBRID SYNERGY DRIVE equipped vehicle features more numerous and complex components compared to a gas/petrol engine powered vehicle, there is no difference in the basic production process. It still requires the stringent quality management that we have been practicing to date.

At every Toyota production line, we have a system in place whereby the line can be stopped at any time if a defect or an abnormal condition is detected so as to identify the cause and immediately implement remedial measures. This is reflected in production equipments that are capable of self-diagnosing troubles and stopping automatically or provision for any worker to activate the halt switch to stop the production line.*

Toyota is committed to the spirit of tireless and continuous pursuit for improving quality and endeavours to "make better products".
